IT'S ALL ABOUT THE PEOPLE

Why We're Here

The California Indian Heritage Center Foundation (CIHCF) was created, in part, in 2009 to serve Californa's Native community via support of projects, special events, outreach, and educational programs at the State Indian Museum in Sacramento. For details, visit the museum website at: www.parks.ca.gov/indianmuseum.

In The News

The Foundation supports the planning, implementation, construction, and Native-led governance of the long-awaited

California Indian Heritage Center.

Special Events
The State Indian Museum hosts numerous special events throughout the year, all funded through the proceeds of the Foundation museum store and generous donations from people like you! Please click on SPECIAL EVENTS and join us in supporting these worthwhile ventures celebrating Native California life and culture!

Sacramento's

Native American History and Culture

Native Americans live, work, & play in the Sacramento and surrounding areas, including the site of the State Indian Museum urban park, just as their ancestors did since ancient times.

We are proud of our commitment to honoring California Indian culture and invite you to participate. We believe that supporting this vital and valuable culture through education creates growth, learning & sharing opportunities for everyone. Join us!

Land Acknowledgement

Our office is located on the Tribal lands of the Nisenan Maidu people. We also acknowledge their neighbors: the Plains & Valley Miwok and Me-wuk peoples to the south, the Southern Maidu people to the north, and the Patwin Wintun peoples to the west, on whose land (now West Sacramento) the California Indian Heritage Center will be built.
